Power over Ethernet (PoE) distributors can make your project child's play - and most importantly, they work to connect any 802.3af compatible router to any Ethernet device, even if it does not natively support PoE ! The splitter takes a unified PoE signal (data and power) from an RJ-45 cable, then splits the data (Ethernet) and power (5 VDC regulated) into two different lines for non-PoE devices.

It is a 5V 2.4A PoE insulated separator with MicroUSB plug based on the IEEE 802.3af standard, economical, practical, efficient and reliable. It can split the power and data signals of a network cable, and can be used with any IEEE 802.3af compatible PoE injector, and provide power and data for non-PoE network equipment.

Whew, that's a lot of words - but basically : Connect this to your PoE switch or hub, then on the other side of the Ethernet cable, you'll get Ethernet and high quality 5V power, up to 2.4 Amps.

It is perfect for use with a Raspberry Pi model B, B+, Pi 2 or Pi 3 since these have Ethernet power supply and USB micro, and 2.4 Amp. It also works very well with Arduino cards and compatible cards that have Ethernet and micro USB. It would also be a perfect addition to a Feather card with FetherWing Ethernet.

Please note that, like many active PoE separators, there is a minimum load requirement of at least 100mA on the 5V power supply. We don't think this will be a problem since everything that has Ethernet will tend to draw 200mA+, but keep it in mind!
