More info

The Adafruit Feather series offers you many options for a small portable and rechargeable microcontroller card.

We looked at hundreds of accessory models and thought about what could be an excellent economical (but well-designed) complement to our Feather cards. This is what we found:

NeoPixel Snap-in Port - With a 3-pin JST connector, you can directly connect one of the JST wired NeoPixel strips or use a 3-pin JST connector to connect your favorite form of addressable NeoPixel LEDs. This port provides a high-current reader from the Feather Lipoly port or USB port, whichever is higher. A level switch gives you a clean voltage signal to reduce problems, no matter which chip you use.
3W RGB LED drivers - 3 high current MOSFETs allow you to connect a 3W RGB LED for a stunning power effect. For most feathers, the 3 pins are PWM compatible so you can generate the color of your choice.
Three-axis accelerometer with TAP detection - The LIS3DH is our preferred accelerometer, you can use it for motion, tilt or TAP detection. V
Class D Audio Amplifier - Drive a speaker 8Ω 1Watt or 4Ω 3W for sound effects.  For use only with feathers that have an analog audio output, such as the Feather M0 Express and M4 series.
Low power mode! The power system of the RGB LEDs, NeoPixels and speaker amplifier can be controlled by a pin to turn off the power, so you have less power consumption when the accessory is in standby or off mode (but can wake up quickly by monitoring the button or pressing the accelerometers). When the power pin is low, the FeatherWing board's power consumption is less than 1mA and there is no power consumption of the connected NeoPixels - normally they are about 1mA even when they are not on.
Validation pin for a mechanical switch that will turn off the entire board.
Pin for a mechanical mode button

Please note: Some embedded components use PWM and analog output, so we recommend the Feather M0 Express or Feather M4 series, they will work better with this featherWing card and allow you to get the most out of it. For example:

Feather 32u4 and 328p do not have PWM for all RGB LED pins, and no analog audio output is supported.
Feather nRF52, ESP32 ESP8266 have PWMs on all RGB LED pins but no analog audio output.
Feather M0 base boards have audio output only in Arduino, not in CircuitPython.

This does not mean that you cannot use this kite with the Feather ESP8266 or nRF52832, just that you will not have any sound effects. You can still use the accelerometer, NeoPixels, RGB LEDs, etc.

As you can see, the M0 Express and M4 series are what we recommend because you will get everything and with CircuitPython, it is really easy to play audio directly from the built-in flash chips!

Supplied assembled with a connector. A little light soldering is required to attach it to your card.
