Description

Bosch's highly anticipated BME680 offers you all the environmental sensors you need in one package. This small sensor contains temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and VOC detection capabilities. All about SPI or I2C at a great price!

Like the BME280 and BMP280, this Bosch precision sensor can measure humidity with an accuracy of ±3%, barometric pressure with an absolute accuracy of ±1 hPa and temperature with an accuracy of ±1.0°C. Because the pressure changes with altitude, and the pressure measurements are so good, you can also use it as an altimeter with ±1 meter or more accuracy!

The BME680 takes these sensors to the next step because it contains a small MOX sensor. Heated metal oxide changes resistance to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air, so it can be used to detect gases and alcohols such as ethanol, alcohol and carbon monoxide and to measure air quality. Note that it will give you a resistance value, with an overall VOC content, but it cannot differentiate gases or alcohols.

Please note that this sensor, like all VOC/gas sensors, has a variability and to obtain accurate measurements, you will need to calibrate it against known sources! However, for environmental sensors in general, this will give you a good idea of trends and comparisons. We recommend that you use this sensor for 48 hours when you receive it to "burn"it, then 30 minutes in the desired mode each time the sensor is used. Sensor sensitivity levels will change at the beginning of use, and resistance will slowly increase over time as the MOX warms up to its reference value.

For your convenience, we have selected and placed the sensor on a printed circuit board with a 3.3V regulator and level adapter, so that it can be easily used with your favorite 3.3V or 5V microcontroller.
