The INA219 FeatherWing board eliminates power control problems. Instead of struggling with two multimeters, you can simply use the INA219B chip on this circuit breaker to measure both high lateral voltage and direct current through an I2C bus with 1% accuracy. Works with all Feather cards! Communicates on I2C for ultra-simple use, you can even change the I2C address to have up to 4 of these fetaherwing on a single Feather card.
Many current meters are only useful for low side measurements. This means that, unless you want to use a battery, you must stick the measuring resistor between the target mass and the actual ground. This can cause circuit problems since electronics tend not to like it when mass references change and move with the variation of the absorbed current. This chip is much smarter - it can support high lateral current measurement, up to +26VDC, even when powered by 3.3V. It will also bring back this high lateral voltage, which is ideal for monitoring the lifetime of batteries or solar panels.
A precision amplifier measures the voltage on the sensing resistor of 0.1 ohms, 1%. Since the maximum input difference of the amplifier is ±320mV, this means that it can measure up to ±3.2 amperes. With 12-bit internal ADC, the resolution at ±3.2A is 0.8mA. With the internal gain set to the div-8 minimum, the maximum current is ±400mA and the resolution is 0.1mA. Advanced hackers can remove the 0.1 ohms current detection resistor and replace it with their own to change the range (say 0.01 ohms to measure 32 amperes with a resolution of 8mA)
